Wat Pra Buddha Batha, Sara Buri , a famous Thai temple

 Bangkok, Thailand

Wednesday 16 April 2025

Hi there,

Last week I went to Sara Buri, a province not far from Bangkok City. On my way back to the city, I and my friend dropped by at one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand, Wat Pra Bhuddha Batha, Sara Buri.  This temple has quite a long and interesting history which I would share with you later. But first, I just want you to see how charming it is.

During that afternoon I spent there, the weather was very hot, so there were just a few visitors coming. But  in the late afternoon when we were leaving, many more people just arrived.

1) The main vihara where the Buddha's footprint is located.

2) While climbing the staircase, I could enjoy watching the vihara above.

3) Inside the vihara is the Buddha's footprint

4)    A statue of an angel that is said protecting the footprint and people from the devils.

5) Two reclining Buddha images in another  vihara or building nearby.

6) The guardian divil or guardian giant named Vejsuwan is considered a guardian angel  at the front entrance of the temple

More details will come later. Now just enjoy watching the pictures. 😊

Happy Songkran 2025!

 Bangkok, Thailand

Happy Songkran 2025!

Hi there,

Thai people especially in Thailand actually started celebrating Thai New Year 2025 or better known as Songkran festival on 13 April already.  Like most countries, Thailand embraced Gregorian calendar or solar calendar from the West that considers 1 January the beginning of a coming year. However, that was not happened here until 1931.  Prior to that, people in Thailand had officially used lunar calendar and regarded 13 April as the beginning of each coming year.  Until 1930, The country and the ways of living were modernized in many ways, following the influence of western expansion in  Southeast Asia, Thailand thus had only around 8.5 months counted in 1930.

Yesterday ,or Songkran Day, I simply stayed at home with no intention to go out. Although many went out and enjoyed water splashing during this very hot season, I chose to hide in the shade, praying for good things hopefully to come into my life later this year, watching a TV series that I had missed when it was first on air and playing with my cats. Don' think I would have missed the world outside. No, I didn't, even if I would love to.  Thanks to modern communication technology these days, what's going on outside in Thailand and around the world can reach me through TV news channels and social platforms on the Internet via my mobile phone, if I don't turn it off.

Today continues another pubic holiday. At first I planned to get up late, but my cats seemed to think differently. They woke me up before dawn and once waking up, I couldn't get back to sleep. So, I just had to go with the flow ,and I have killed my time quite effectively ever since. I cooked two delicious dishes for lunch: spicy chicken and pickled bamboo shoot stir-fry and melon skin in spicy dried fish soup, which will be my dinner later.  No heavy chores beyond that though because I remember some people said do not work on New Year Day, otherwise you would have to word hard throughout the year. Despite I don't seriously believe such, follow that advice is not bad.

Happy Thai New Year. Happy Songkran!!! 😁

Bangkok, Thailand

Friday  17th January 2025

The first cool month seems keeping me busy.

Bangkok today continues enjoying nice fresh air with 23 degree C early this morning. This kind of weather doesn't happen often though. We Bangkokians normally have to endure hot and very hot season all year round. However, since the past New Year holiday, Bangkokians and most people in other provinces have delightfully experienced cool or freezing air especially on the mountain tops in the North and Northeast. I saw from TV news that many campers and travelers flocked up there to view icy drew and to feel freezing air themselves.  Good for them though I prefer just nice fresh breeze in my cozy and tiny apartment here in town. Besides, we are now facing the heavy PM2.5dusty air that presently returns to suffer people in Thailand, especially in Bangkok and vicinity and northern provinces.

When I look back since the new year arrived, my daily life hasn't come into its full pace yet in terms of my work. My work schedule still has some gaps to be filled up.  That's not good for my mind and, of course, my bills. My mind tends to move too fast and in all un-necessary and not-so-positive directions when having too much free time. Yet, that free time is beneficial in some ways--that is for my mom and my cats.

When having more free time, I can visit my mom at her place more often and take her to see doctor for her hypertension treatment.  A few months before the end of last year, I registered for Mom to get treatment at a clinic near her house instead of taking her to the major hospital far away from her place. Last week I took her to see the doc at this community clinic for the first time and we spent only two hours for the whole trip and meeting. This was much different when I had taken Mom to hospital.

Then I had to get up before dawn and catch taxi to pick up my mom at her place before heading to the hospital together very early in the morning. We needed to wait in long queue for hours for registration and then waited another long queue for more hours to get her blood examination and to see the doctor. Those processes usually finished in mid or late afternoon, while we had just 10-15 minutes talking with the doc. Later, we had to wait another long queue for prescribed medicine, for around one more hour, before I would take her home later.  Yes, it often took me one whole day to take my mom to hospital each time. At the end of those hospital trip days, I almost had no energy left for dragging my feet back to my place.

As for my cats, within the first month of this new year, I took Miss Garlic my 9 years old black and white cat for treatment at the hospital 4 times already, and with two more appointments before this month ends. She has got chronic eye problem since she was a stray kitty and that causes her to receive continuous eye check-ups and  treatment. Currently, she has got infectious cold and additionally developed allergy to dirt and cool air.  My poor Garlic. Fortunately, my other cat 5 years old ticked tabby Siamzee is healthier. Different from Garlic, little Siamzee quickly recovered from a cold after 10 days of medication in last December. I thank for her strength and good health.

Siamzee

As I am recalling what I did over the past weeks, time seems flying fast. It's now almost 5 PM and Miss Garlic already left her corner, now staring at me quietly but clearly with the message "my meal" in her unspoken language.  All right, I stare at her, returning her my message, also with no need of any  words.  We seem to understand each other well enough after almost ten years of living together.

Happy Friday everyone.

Happy New Year 2025 !

 Bangkok, Thailand

Wednesday 1 January 2025

The first day of this new year has arrived. And now we start counting the days that will follow until the end of this year. It sounds routine, yet everyone get used to that. Besides, no one complains about this incessant cycle. People look forward to the moment that another year is coming every time. They celebrate and send around their love and happiness to others.

We do not know for certain how our new year will be, yet we usually have hope, good hope actually, to see that everything will be better in the new year than in the previous year.  That  might be the reason that makes everyone looks forward to the very year coming.

Happy New Year 2025
