Living with double( or more) standards

Friday, January 28, 2011

I wanted to talk about some light-hearted topics but  that mood is gone. Blame my first communication of the day with my chat friends. We discussed some annoying issues that happened in diferent corners of the world, including our society.  One of  those issues was double (or more) standards that perhaps happened in every society. The difference is just severity of those standards in different societies.

When looking at Thailand, sadly I can see plenty of double standards and their adverse effects. The condition of double standards in our Thai society is quite severe. Some people simply embrace them with no question. Others may disagree but choose to conform or have to conform to the majority. The others truly hate such double standards and try every way possible to oppose or at least struggle from those so-called standards, although they have more chances to suffere more than success. I am one of the latter.

Let look at a day's scenario. We get up and set feet out of the door.  Be fair, we must brace for any chance to encounter with double standards.  Just recall your memory and we will discuss that later in the next chapter. Now my brain nearly shuts itself down, time for lunch.
See you later with our experiences to share. :)

Give yourself some happiness

Thursday, January 27, 2011

No no no. I am not a guru of happiness. My life is still a combination of misery and happiness. Some days my mood seems plunging near the abyss, other days it leaps up to the brink of heaven. What can I say? I am just a human full of love, hate and stupidity.
Still, I can see clearly that happiness is more friendly to me than many others I knew or encountered.  I can find happiness in various occasions, even at some terrible moments happened to me. And that has nothing to do with age, gender, beauty, money and education.  So, I want to share with you my easy ways to bring happiness to yourself, too.  But there is no guarantee all will work the same to an individual. You have to find out yourself that which way suits yours.

  • Watch your favorite movies
  • Watch favorite TV programs
  • Listen to favorite radio programs
  • Talk to people you like
  • Read any books you like or you are interested in
  • Think of your good old days
  • Laugh at yourself when you unintentionally fall into some embarassing situations, such  as trip over your toe, slip at the stairs, miss the bus at the bus stop, break the heels of your shoes, etc.
  • Laugh freely and loud when you feel funny. No need to suppress it all the time
  • Give other people your friendly smile (  not everyone, though). You may just have to use your own judgement/experience a bit. But if you are  not so wool-headed, you sure can feel who will not jump on you and bite your head off after giving him/her your good hearted smile)
  • Don't think of making yourself look good or neat  from head to toes all the time.
  • Wear comfy clothes
  • Talk to/hug your pets
  • Try some new menus or foreign dishes
  • Go to new places> if you are a party person, why not visit a church or a temple or if you never know what inside a pub, get yourself in but no need to jump into a keg of beer or spirit if you are not a drinker.
  • Sing a song no matter your voice can make a demon curse.
  • Walk under the rain( make sure no thunderstorm)
  • Get up early in the morning to feel fresh air and see sun rise---especially you are a regular late-bird.
  • Prolong your time in bed until late morning or noon---especially when you are always in a hurry to leave your bed.
  • Sip coffee, tea, juice or wine as you prefer and appreciate the brew while leaving your mind empty.
  • Feed your tummy as you truly want, forget what nutritional experts tell you.
Now I believe you may get some ideas which one suits you. So, try it.

More from a small kitchen

Thursday, January 27, 2011

If you are not so notorious for cooking that you are banned from any cooking arena by your family, friends (or even yourself), cooking is quite a good tool to help you relax. You can release your stress, tension or frustration , if there is any, through your cooking. You will get tangible outcomes, no matter how good or bad they may appear to the world. The better is that the more you do, the more likely your outcomes will improve in both the taste and the look.

So, why not grab your pot and pan now and let the world know you are one of the best (it will  head to that stage finally, keep your fingers crossed).  Just look what I did that, too. I guarantee that the taste is superior than my ability of taking photos. :)

Have a nice meal!

Wake up with the quick but tasty dishes!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Time not just flies but dashes with light-speed!  Look, the end of January of this new year is approaching. I don't know why time has to be in such a hurry.

Anyway, the nice cool weather is past. Bangkok is getting warm and soon will be hot like a stove as usual.  So, to get myself back to good health and good mood. I cooked. This time I did not forget to drag my compact camera to work a bit.  Next is the outcome of my cooking recently.

enjoy the meal.

Nice Weather in Bangkok

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Good morning. It is very nice weather today here in Bangkok. I woke up since 4.30 am and spent some time reading online news and feeding my cats.  I felt fresh air coming through the pane I left open at night. When opening the door to the balcony, I saw dimly gray sky and a jungle of buildings surrounding my neighbours. It is not a good welcome for my vision in such a good weather day but the quietness from the surroundings except birds cooed and cool, fresh breezes are such a bless. Most residents are still in bed.  Thanks gods.

My Wednesday began. :)
